Live at Martha's Vineyard Museum, April 5, 2024
A nice intimate solo set full of originals and classic covers
Two weeks ago, I played a nice, intimate, and long solo concert at the Martha’s Vineyard Museum. And…I recorded it!
To be honest, I was surprised that for a full 3 hours there was a nice little crowd! — for whom I played 2 sets of mostly original music with a few choice chestnuts written by some of my favorite songwriters thrown in. The original stuff runs the gamut from some of my earliest songs — songs like “Girl, pay me no attention” and “You’ve Gotta Be Crazy Just To Be” written in my teens — to some brand new ones like “When I Surrender” and “To Die Is Gain”.
Both sets are available in full behind the paywall, but for those who aren’t paying subscribers, here’s two highlights:
“Jamestown Ferry” by Charley Crockett, and my story about trading subway busking spots with him in Brooklyn:
“Tennessee Whiskey” originally by Dean Dillon and Linda Hargrove, given a recent comeback by Chris Stapleton. It isn’t easy to do a show without getting a request for this one — I must be doing a good job with it! I credit my wife for helping me figure out how to sing that crazy vocal run in the chorus.
